A Phase I/II Clinical Study on Chlorogenic Acid for Injection, a Pioneering Class 1 New drug
A National Science and Technology Major Project
A phase I/II clinical study on Chlorogenic Acid for Injection, a pioneering Class 1 new drug developed by Sichuan Jiuzhang Biotech Co., Ltd., has been incorporated in the NHPLC Major New Drug Innovation Program under the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan.
Independently developed by Sichuan Jiuzhang Biotech Co., Ltd., Chlorogenic Acid for Injection is a proprietary innovative drug. Clinically characterized by satisfactory safety, efficacy, and broad therapeutic spectrum, it is a small-molecule natural polyphenol with immunological activity against tumors, and has been shown to be a promising therapeutic option for various solid tumors including glioma and lung cancer.

Chlorogenic acid is a multi-pathway, multi-target active compound. In January 2017, an article entitled Chlorogenic Acid Inhibits Glioblastoma Growth through Repolarizating Macrophage from M2 to M1 Phenotype was published in Scientific Reports, a journal under Nature Publishing Group, releasing the immunological mechanism of action (on macrophages) of Chlorogenic Acid for Injection, i.e., up-regulating the tumor-associated macrophage phenotype M1 and inhibiting the tumor-associated macrophage phenotype M2 through repolarization, and promoting macrophage transformation from M2 phenotype to M1 phenotype.
Besides, in studies inducing apoptosis of malignant tumor cells, it has been confirmed that chlorogenic acid injection could induce differentiation of tumor cells, thus promoting tumor transformation from the more advanced poorly differentiated state to the less advanced highly differentiated state, and further inhibiting tumor metastasis.
With the ongoing clinical progresses, more research papers focusing on the mechanisim of chlorogenic acid will be published in the near future.
